And while we're at it, he was probably also an alcoholic/hippie/communist/satanist/insert random deviance here. Oh, how funny and original.

A friend of mine told me about new research on a psychoactive, that makes you go in heavy coma, if you get vinegar in your digestion-system. Could it be that Jesus had taken this psychoactive? He was given a cloth soaked in vinegar in the cross. So he could've possibly gone to a coma then, gotten buried, then waking up in the grave, thinking he was back from the dead.

 Why the pissiness? Any other guy who claimed to be able to walk on water and be the son of god would be told to lay off the drugs. Why should Jesus be any different?

I think that the 'Jesus must have been..' remarks lost their originality after the second one was made, their funniness two seconds after the first one was made and their sensible merit two seconds before the first one was made.

Secondly, I'm not gonna play the blasphemy card or anything, but I think it is hardly funny to take religious writings and claim that they are written based on some kind of devious induction, because you fail to grasp a methaphorical or historical context or because they evolved from old folklore themes.

Have it your way. I find it pretty funny to think that the entire new testament is based on a druggie, though.

It's harmless humor. Hell, God knows (or does He?) that I can appreciate the significance and history of the Christian writings

But there are theories that the one who died on the cross wasn't Yeshua ben Yusuf, or Jesus son of Joseph, if you like, but a stand-in.

What evidence supports this? And remember that plenty of people were crucified every day back then.

A stand-in? What, like an understudy?

Well, first of all the Qur'an mentions that Jesus hid behind a brick wall and watched while the stand-in was crucified in his place, if I remember correctly. Also, I think the Qur'an mentions that Jesus died somewhere in Asia (the Wikipedia article on Islam mentions that the Ahmadis believe that he died in Kashmir as an old man). More about the Islamic view of the death of Jesus and the substitution theory: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamic_vi ... rpretation

Also, according to Gnostic traditions, Simon of Cyrene ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simon_of_Cyrene ) is the one that apparently was to have been crucified instead of Jesus.

The Ahmadis believe that Jesus was crucified, but that he was revived from a swoon at the cross, and that he later travelled to India to search for the lost tribes of Israel, and that his tomb is to be found in Kashmir, under the na,me Yuz Asaf:
