I have not, but I'm only young, and probably will get drafted into the military in the next 3 years.

No, but I might consider the Naval Reserve or whatever it's called at some stage in the future.

Not me anyway. I'd probably go to jail when draft returns.

 Well, Sweden's politics are pretty lame in general. A lot of people who actually want to do it aren't allowed to either since our national defense has been so cut down on ovear the years.

That's ridiculous. How can they even call it a draft?

Mainly it's just for the books these days. They do lots of tests etc where they also see the general condition and knowledge of the youth however, so that could be one reason that they are keeping it. However they are actually considering starting to draft girls too, which means that even less people will be forced to do it - so yes, it is quite ridiculous. But once in a while someone who doesn't want to do it is forced to, which makes it even worse and more unfair... we definitely ought to drop this system.

Served 9 months almost 12 years ago, when we still had the draft here.

Thank God that was the standard time in 1994. It had been reduced several times, from a year and a half in the 70s to a year, and gradually towards nine months.
I'll tell ya: it was an utter waste of time. Most of the time we were told to brush our shoes :?

And yes, that's in Holland.
